Panic attacks are a symptom of panic disorder, one of the most treatable anxiety disorders. Everyday more and more people join the ranks of sufferers of panic attacks suffering intense feelings of fear that comes out of nowhere, luckily, there are panic attack treatments.
Medic Treatment for Panic Attacks
In modern medicine, panic attacks can be treated with the use of medications and counseling. The medications used are antidepressants and along with the counselling, they help reduce the frequency with which panic attacks appear by lowering the anxiety.
In some cases, the panic attacks are triggered by certain medications, the opposite must be done her: removing the trigger, in the best cases it should stop the attacks but sometimes they reveal that the medications didn’t triggered the anxiety.
Starting Panic Disorder Treatment
The initial treatment starts wit professional counselling and it is aimed at determining the level of panic attacks you have and whether it is associated with agoraphobia or not. It includes cognitive behavioural therapy (for the goal of modifying your mind) and exposure therapy (that helps you confront your feared situations)
Medications Used in Panic Attack Treatments
Like stated before, the medications used are antidepressants these include:

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These are the most commonly used medicines for treatment. Among them we have Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil.

Antidepressants with mixed neurotransmitter effects.

Benzodiazepines, like Xanax, Ativan and Klonopin. These are also prescribed with other antidepressants.

Other options include tricyclic antidepressants (Tofranil, Norpramin, Anafril) and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Marplan, Nardil, Parnate).
Alternative Treatments
There are finally alternative treatments that seem to have worked with a lot of people and have the advantages of not requiring medicines. Treatments like meditation and the use of hypnosis tapes help us control our mind and emotions with enough practice, without possible side effects.
