Symptoms of a Panic Attack

One of the best things you can do is recognizing a panic attacks, if you are uncertain of what you have been suffering, there are a series of symptoms of a panic attack that you can take into consideration.  The symptoms can be divided in three:  mental, physical and perceptual although of course, they form a part of a whole.  Let’s take a look at them.

Mental Panic Attack Symptoms

These are things that happen in your head and have to do with emotions.  Among them we have:

  1. Cognitive ability loss

  2. Internal dialogue that can become overwhelming

  3. Feeling of disasters happening

  4. Loss of reaction ability

  5. Fear of losing control, of death and of becoming insane

  6. Flashbacks to previous panic attacks that happened in your life

  7. An unexplainable sense of terror related to future events.

Physical Panic Attack Symptoms

These symptoms show up in your body.  These are hard to notice as you find mostly trapped in the mind:

  1. Excessive sweating

  2. Respiratory difficulties (dyspnea)

  3. Hyperventilation

  4. Hot and Cold feelings in the body

  5. Upset Stomach

  6. Heavy Itching

  7. Light-headedness

  8. A pounding heart and chest pain

  9. Choking sensations

  10. Numbness in hands and face

  11. Shaking

  12. Exhaustion

Perceptual Panic Attack Symptoms

These symptoms have to do with the way you perceive the events and the world around you. They include:

  1. Heightened senses, this means you will see more, hear more, etc. like in a danger situation

  2. You’ll perceive the slowing down of time.

  3. Dissociation

  4. Tunnel vision

  5. You’ll feel like you are in a dream or nightmare.

If you feel these symptoms go to a professional as soon as possible, it is very probable that you suffer from a panic disorder.
